Perkeo is one of the five Legendary Jokers that can be generated from using The Soul Spectral card, which in itself has a 3 in 1000 (0.3%) chance to replace any given card in a Spectral Pack or Arcana Pack.

Perkeo creates a Negative copy of any random consumable card held by the player when leaving The Shop, be it a Tarot card, a Planet card, or a Spectral card. Thanks to the Negative modifier that gives a +1 consumable slot to the applied card, Perkeo will always create a new consumable, even if all consumable slots are filled. This extra copy can then be used like normal, or sold for a higher value than usual because of the Negative modifier.

Synergies

Having access to many consumables is one of the most important aspects when owning Perkeo, as it grants a wider selection of choices for Perkeo to duplicate, allowing the player to make better decisions depending on what they can get it to copy. Ghost Deck is undoubtedly the deck that works best with Perkeo, as Spectral cards are, in nature, a huge game-changer due to their drastic effects at various degrees. The ability to buy Spectral cards directly from the Shop can be unfathomably powerful, allowing the player to create copies of powerhouses like Cryptid to duplicate powerful cards, or the likes of Deja Vu and Aura to enhance existing cards in their deck. Without it, the only way to get Spectral cards in your consumable slots to copy will be Séance or Sixth Sense, which is way harder to make use of. Because of its amazing effect though, Perkeo fits in any deck, but notably well with the Zodiac Deck due to the increased consumable rate in the Shop coming from both the Tarot Merchant and Planet Merchant vouchers, as well as easier access to their upgrades, Tarot Tycoon and Planet Tycoon, and just more shop items in general thanks to the Overstock voucher, and again, easier access to its upgraded version, the Overstock Plus voucher.

Perkeo can benefit any unlocked poker hand equally. Acquiring the desired poker hand's Planet and keeping it in the consumable slot can let you get a Planet every shop, which makes scaling very easy and comfortable, given how shops don't always have the Planet desirable.

Perkeo also has a natural synergy with the Observatory Voucher. This is because Observatory grants X1,5 Mult for each Planet held in the consumable slots matching the poker hand played. By stacking multiple copies of the Planet, the player gains a massive boost to their score which can accumulate super fast. This effect is also one of the more complicated, albeit repeatable, methods to achieve the elusive Naneinf score, due to requiring an ungodly amount of Planets.

  • Any Joker that is compatible with Blueprint and/or Brainstorm performs amazingly when paired with them, and Perkeo is no exception. It is in fact one of the best Jokers to copy, allowing players to generate multiple Negative consumables every blind, which is not to mention that Perkeo activates at a separate time from all other Jokers - when exiting a Shop - allowing the player to freely copy other Jokers when Perkeo has done its job for maximum benefit. Note that each trigger of the ability may select a different consumable to copy if the player has different consumables available to be duplicated.
  • Jokers like Superposition, Cartomancer, Hallucination, Vagabond, and 8 Ball all generate Tarot cards, which can be used as the copy target for Perkeo.
  • Sixth Sense and Séance are the only ways to put a Spectral card in the consumable slot outside of Ghost Deck, which makes them a powerful combination with Perkeo, provided their conditions can be fulfilled consistently. Even just getting one or two Spectral cards from them can be good enough value.
  • Duplicating random Planets or Tarot cards becomes way more viable of a strategy when paired with Constellation which gains X0.1 Mult when a Planet is used, or Fortune Teller, gaining +1 Mult when using a Tarot card.
  • Perkeo has a natural synergy with Campfire, which gains X0.25 Mult every time a card is sold. Holding a consumable at the end of the shop creates a copy that can be sold for cash and a guaranteed X1.75 Mult on Campfire for the Boss Blind, provided neither the Small Blind or Big Blind are skipped.
  • Gift Card works well with Perkeo by keeping consumables for multiple rounds, gaining lots of money than what was initially worth. The added sell value does not drop with Clearance Sale or Liquidation, allowing this combo to be used in full effect even with the mentioned Vouchers purchased.
  • Tarot cards:
    • The Fool has a respectable synergy with Perkeo. By having multiple copies of The Fool, one can generate multiple copies of the desired Tarot card or Planet all at once, whether it be a suit-changing Tarot card for poker hands containing a Flush, Death/ The Hanged Man for deck building, or a specific Planet to use.
    • The Hanged Man has perhaps one of the best combos with Perkeo, as the synergy can repeatedly trim the deck by 2 cards each round, allowing specific poker hands or playing cards, that are difficult to come across with a bloated deck, much easier to find.
    • Death can turn the whole deck into a specific playing card, which is best used on cards that already have a useful Enhancement, Edition or Seal.
    • The High Priestess and The Emperor are great ways to generate Planets and Tarot cards, allowing the players to find certain consumables much easier. They also have an apparent synergy with the aforementioned Jokers Constellation and Fortune Teller.
    • The Judgement and The Wheel of Fortune Tarot cards, while not the best targets for Perkeo to duplicate, can still generate new Jokers or Editions for your Jokers, which is best when there's not much money to be spent. In most scenarios though, their best use is to be sold.
    • Temperance is one of the best cards to copy due to Perkeo alone having a high sell value of $10.
  • Spectral cards:
    • Cryptid and Immolate are some of the best consumables to be used with Perkeo. They have immense deck building value, with Cryptid creating multiple copies of a playing card and Immolate thinning the deck down quite significantly while also giving a decent chunk of money, equal to that of The Hermit. When used in bulk, which is made far more accessible thanks to Perkeo, they allow the deck to be composed of only one specific card quite easily, opening the gates for quite a few strategies, most notably High Card and Flush Five builds.
    • Aura and Ectoplasm are quite good match-ups with Perkeo to enhance the player's cards. Aura can be used repeatedly for the specific Edition wanted, or at certain times bail the player out of sticky situations. Ectoplasm lets the player cover their Joker roster with the Negative Edition, allowing more Jokers to join in the build, in turn generating way more score or letting duplicates of strong Jokers in with the use of Showman, Invisible Joker and/or Ankh. Though, it is noteworthy that it is never recommended to use too many Ectoplasms, since the additive deduction to Hand size makes it a run killer.
      • This issue can be negated partly by building towards High Card or Pair. Even then, it is recommend that the player never use more than 3 Ectoplasms without certain methods to obtain more Hand sizes than normally available.
    • Deja Vu, Talisman, Trance, and Medium allows the player to make Seals on playing cards easily, providing lots of value. However, one of the better strategies is to only use them a few times on important cards and then makes more copies of it using Death, DNA and/or Cryptid.
  • Planets:
    • All poker hands benefit from Perkeo's ability evenly as its effect treats all Planets equally. The player can use the copies to level up the poker hand, keep them for extra score with Observatory, or form synergies with Gift Card/ Campfire as described in the #Synergies section above.
  • The Observatory voucher has one of the most powerful synergies with Perkeo. By keeping multiple copies of a Planet in the consumable slots and focusing on playing that one particular hand, the player gets a great boost to their scoring, which is almost always better than just leveling up the poker hand itself, making this a really viable strategy. The deck can be built to work with any poker hand, but the most notable and consistent, especially for Endless Mode, will be High Card, Five of a Kind and Flush Five. With extra copies of Perkeo, or the beloved Blueprint/ Brainstorm, every Shop can guarantee at least 2 extra Planets for a much better scaling.
  • The Tarot Merchant and Planet Merchant vouchers makes Tarot cards and Planets way more accessible for duplication, which is doubly true so with their upgrades, the Tarot Tycoon and Planet Tycoon vouchers. The Zodiac Deck starts with both of those vouchers, as well as the Overstock voucher and access to its upgraded version, Overstock Plus, allowing the player to see many more shop items, including the Tarot cards and Planets aforementioned, making it a better candidate to use with Perkeo than most other decks.

Anti-Synergies

Decks

The Painted Deck is harder to utilize due to its -1 Joker slot penalty, since Perkeo can be classified as a utility Joker and therefore providing no direct benefits for scoring. This isn't really an issue though, as the benefits that Perkeo provides would far outweigh the downside.

Jokers

With Perkeo being classified as a utility Joker, there aren't any particular Jokers that can ruin the fun. Jokers generating consumables may gum up the consumable slots, therefore breaking strategies when using Perkeo. This is not really an issue thanks to Perkeo's unique activation timing, allowing the player to easily sell or use the consumable beforehand.

Trivia

  • Perkeo of Heidelberg (born Clemens Pankert, according to other sources Giovanni Clementi; 1702–1735) was a notable jester of Elector Palatine Charles III Philip in Heidelberg. As guardian of the Great Heidelberg Tun, he has since become an unofficial mascot of the city and region. His name, story, and image have been connected with a variety of festivals, traditional songs, cultural and scientific institutions, hotels, restaurants, and private companies (in and out of the region) ever since.
  • Perkeo's ability to hold infinite consumable cards is a reference to the real jester's penchant for allegedly consuming between five and eight US gallons of wine a day (possibly due to a case of Diabetes Insipidus).
  • This Joker has 2 differently shaped eyes: Perkeo's left eye is slightly deviated, resembling cross-eyes, specifically a condition known as exotropia.
  • Perkeo is the only way to get consumables with the Negative Edition applied.
  • This Joker, like the other Legendary Jokers, is animated, with Perkeo hovering just above the green card face.
  • The other Legendary Jokers are Canio, Chicot, Triboulet, and Yorick. More information about them can be found in the page Legendary Jokers.
  • Perkeo is the only Joker that triggers when exiting the Shop.
