Triboulet is one of the five Legendary Jokers that can be generated from using The Soul Spectral card, which in itself has a 3 in 1000 (0.3%) chance to replace any given card in a Spectral Pack or Arcana Pack.

Triboulet gives X2 Mult whenever a King or Queen is scored.

Synergies

Most decks benefit equally from Triboulet as most start with the same amount of Kings and Queen.

  • An Erratic Deck seed containing high numbers of Kings and Queens will allow this Joker to reach a much higher ceiling much easier.
  • The Ghost Deck has easier access to Spectral cards, which simplifies deck building, allowing the deck to be more concentrated on Kings and Queens, but also because of Red Seals, which can retrigger Triboulet's effect.
  • As Kings and Queens are considered face cards, any Jokers triggering off of face cards naturally make a combo with Triboulet. Retriggers are by far the most valuable, as seen with Sock and Buskin, activating the multiplicative Mult up to 5 times more. This skyrockets gain from Triboulet when playing a 5-card hand containing only scoring Kings and Queens which is X32 Mult to X1024 Mult, a staggering difference.
  • Hanging Chad, Dusk, and Seltzer are also good due to the same reasoning.
  • Splash allows Kings and Queens to score on poker hands they otherwise would be unable to, such as an Ace-high High Card hand.
  • Death can turn some cards into powerful Queens or Kings.
  • The Hanged Man can remove non-Queen and non-King cards.
  • Strength can turn Jacks into Queens or even turn Queens into Kings depending on the build.
  • Cryptid can make more Queens or Kings.
  • Deja Vu can apply Red Seals onto Queens or Kings, allowing for more Triboulet triggers.

Anti-Synergies

Decks

  • Abandoned Deck, Medusa, and Mad World are not recommended due to the lack of initial Kings and Queens.

Jokers

  • Canio requires many face cards to be destroyed, the majority of which tend to be Kings and Queens. This isn't too much of a problem if the player decides to destroy just Jacks or if they have Pareidolia.
  • Baron, Shoot the Moon and Reserved Parking require having Kings and Queens held in hand instead of playing them, making a bad combination with Triboulet.
    • Though Reserved Parking isn't too much of an issue if the player leaves just Jacks or have Pareidolia.
  • The Plant can be a run killer as debuffed Queens and Kings do not trigger Triboulet.

Trivia

  • Little biographical information is available about the jester Triboulet. It is known that in France, there have been at least three jesters referred to as "Triboulet", with the first one serving René of Anjou and also being a playwright, the second serving Louis XII, and the third one serving Francis I (and possibly also Louis XII). The second Triboulet died during Louis XII's reign, and he and the Third Triboulet later became confused as one person.
  • The effect of this Joker is likely in reference to a story in which a court jester slapped the King on the buttocks. As the tale goes, the King told the jester he would be allowed to live if he could give an answer more offensive than the act itself. In response, the jester said, “I’m sorry, your majesty- I mistook you for the Queen!” This would explain why the effect of the joker specifically applies to only Kings and Queens. Although the historical accuracy of this story and quote is questionable, it is commonly attributed to Triboulet.
  • This Joker is animated, with Triboulet hovering just above the blue card face.
  • The other legendary Jokers are Canio, Chicot, Perkeo, and Yorick.
