The Soul is a Spectral card that creates 1 of the 5 Legendary Jokers if there is room. This is the only way to obtain Legendary Jokers.

The Soul can only be found in Spectral Packs and Arcana Packs, where each card has a 3/1000 (0.3%) chance to be the Soul. The Soul cannot be created by Sixth Sense (If {{hl|orange|first hand}} of round is a single {{hl|orange|6}}, destroy it and create a [[Spectral Cards|{{hl|sblue|Spectral}}]] card <br> {{room}} Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Sixth_Sense.png) and Séance (If [[Poker Hands|{{hl|orange|poker hand}}]] is a {{ph|Straight Flush}}, create a random [[Spectral_Cards|{{hl|sblue|Spectral}}]] card <br> {{room}} Uncommon Effect Independent Séance.png), nor found in the shop when using the Ghost Deck ( [[Spectral Cards|{{hl|sblue|Spectral}}]] cards may appear in the shop, start with a {{spectral|Hex}} card Win a run with the {{D|Yellow}} on [[Stakes|any difficulty]] Ghost Deck.png).

• Despite being able to be found in Arcana Packs, The Soul is strictly considered a Spectral Card and not a Tarot Card.
• Like normal card generation, multiple copies of The Soul cannot appear in one pack, unless with Showman ([[Jokers|{{hl|orange|Joker}}]], [[Tarot Cards|{{hl|purple|Tarot}}]], [[Planet Cards|{{hl|cyan|Planet}}]], and [[Spectral Cards|{{hl|sblue|Spectral}}]] cards may appear multiple times Reach Ante level {{hl|orange|4}} Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Showman.png).
• If the player is already holding all 5 legendary jokers and not holding Showman, the fall-back Joker is Joker ({{Mult|+4}} Common Additive Mult Independent Joker.png).
• On Gold Stake, the first Soul card used will give a legendary joker that does not yet have a Gold Sticker (), to help with the Completionist++ achievement. This is done by manipulating the seed before starting the game, so there will be no inconsistencies if running the seed again after earning the sticker.
• Legendary Jokers created through Soul cannot have any functional Stickers. The only exception is during the Non-Perishable ( ) challenge, where all Jokers are Eternal ().
• The Jokerless ( ) Challenge bans The Soul.

• The Soul creates a random Legendary Joker if the player has room. This is one of the rarest cards in Balatro, only having a 0.3% chance to replace a card, for every card in the pack, in Arcana Packs and Spectral Packs. It is typically very powerful, and can be the sole reason the player wins a run if used properly.
• One way to find The Soul is to repeatedly reset and skip for the Charm Tag ( Charm tag.png), which has a small chance to contain The Soul.
  • An Ethereal Tag ( Ethereal tag.png) will not work as well, since the Spectral Pack given has only 2 cards compared to Mega Arcana Pack's 5 cards, and as the chance is rolled independently for each card in the pack, it has a higher chance of giving The Soul. In addition, Charm Tags can be found on Ante 1, whereas Ethereal Tags can only be found on Ante 2+.
• The Soul cannot generate Eternal () Jokers, which might hinder its potential with Madness (When {{hl|orange|Small Blind}} or {{hl|orange|Big Blind}} is selected, gain {{xmult|0.5}} and {{hl|orange|destroy}} a random Joker <br> {{Currently|{{xmult|1}}}} Uncommon Multiplicative Mult Independent Madness.png), Ankh (Create a copy of a random [[Jokers|{{hl|orange|Joker}}]], destroy all other Jokers <br> {{hl|gray|(Removes {{hl|edition|Negative}} from copy)}} Available from start. • Some Legendary jokers do not provide immediate value, which might be detrimental to the run if not considered carefully, such as Triboulet (Played Kings and Queens each give {{xmult|2}} when scored Find this [[Jokers|Joker]] from the [[Spectral Cards|{{hl|sblue|Soul}}]] card. • The art style of The Soul differs from other Spectral Cards, and resembles that of Tarot Cards, even having a messed up number on the top. This card is also animated, with the gem beating like a heart, or perhaps something inside is trying to break out.
• When The Soul turn Negative, the sprite colors of the gem are not inverted because the animated sprites are separated from the cards themselves, like legendary jokers. However, it cannot appear in a normal game as The Soul cannot be held.
• A soul tarot card is a Major Arcana card said to represent a person.
• Black Hole (Upgrade every [[Poker Hands|{{hl|purple|poker hand}}]] by {{hl|orange|1}} level Available from start. Spectral Black Hole.png) is the Planet-equivalent version of The Soul. Both have the same 0.3% chance to replace a card, rolled independently for every card, in the packs they can appear in.
• The heart beat-like motion and the name of the card may be hinting at the trapped soul of a dead jester (all the Legendary Jokers being famous real or fictional jesters) begging to be released.
• The design of the card could also be inspired by the Cippi of Melqart.
• This and the Black Hole are the only two spectral cards to feature something on the top part of the card. The Soul features 5 rectangles, which likely indicates the 5 Legendary Jokers that can be obtained from this card.
