Joker Stencil is an Uncommon Multiplicative Mult Joker that gives the player X1 Mult per empty Joker slot, including this Joker.

Synergies

  • Black Deck is good with this Joker, as this deck gives +1 Joker slot, which basically gives it an extra X1 Mult.
  • Similarly, Five-Card Draw is even better with this Joker, as this deck gives +2 Joker slots, which basically gives it an extra X2 Mult.
  • Ghost Deck can be potent with Joker Stencil thanks to its easier access to Spectral Cards, especially those mentioned in the Synergetic Spectral Cards section.
  • Nebula Deck is really good with this Joker, as it relies less on having many Jokers, thus freeing up slots.
  • Zodiac Deck can be good with this Joker, as it gives more chances for cards other than Jokers to appear.

Strong five-card hands like Flush, Straight, or Full House synergize well with Joker Stencil thanks to their high base Mult.

  • Any Negative Joker works well with this, as they do not take up a Joker slot.
  • Because the Joker Stencil counts itself as an empty slot, multiple Joker Stencils combine brilliantly. If you have five slots, two Joker Stencils, and no other Jokers, they both provide X5 Mult for a combined total of X25 Mult. A negative joker stencil gives an extra X1 Mult to each Joker Stencil (the formula being XMult = Empty Joker slots + # of Joker Stencils).
  • Invisible Joker can be very good for duplicating the Joker Stencil, provided you can play around the loss of X1 Mult for two rounds before selling it.
  • While Blueprint and Brainstorm both copy the main XMult effect of Joker Stencil, they do not take on the secondary effect of acting as an empty joker slot. This makes their synergies inadvisable if buying them takes the Joker Stencil down to X1 Mult, rendering it useless. However, as long as the Joker Stencil stays above X1 Mult, multiple copies of its XMult effect will provide a higher combined XMult than a singular copy of it, even if that means the XMult being copied is slightly lower (for example, X3 Mult < X2 Mult * X2 Mult).
  • Any Joker giving Mult is good, as it's better to have a bigger base Mult to multiply off of. Jokers that can reach high levels of Mult by themselves, like Red Card, Flash Card, or Bootstraps, are really good, as you don't have to rely on multiple Jokers to get large amounts of Mult.
  • Ectoplasm makes one of your Jokers Negative, adding +1 Joker slot and therefore adding X1 Mult.
  • Ankh can duplicate Joker Stencil, effectively raising your XMult Mult by the 2nd power. If you only have 1 Joker Stencil and 5 total Joker slots, this would be X5 Mult ^2, which equals X25 Mult. This can be done multiple times if your Joker Stencil is Eternal.
  • Antimatter provides +1 Joker Slot and therefore gives it an extra X1 Mult.
  • On Black Stake and higher, the Eternal sticker can allow for Ankh to make multiple copies of Joker Stencil, which is made more powerful when combined with the Polychrome from Hex. Or, if combined with Perkeo and Ectoplasm, the elusive naneinf score can be achieved with hundreds of Negative Joker Stencils. Because of the hand size reduction, however, you will immediately lose the next round.

Anti-Synergies

  • Painted Deck hamstrings Joker Stencil with its -1 Joker Slot, giving it X1 Mult less.
  • Similarly, Cruelty hamstrings Joker Stencil even more with its -2 Joker Slots, giving it X2 Mult less.
  • Plasma Deck is also generally not good with this Joker, as usually the player either wants a lot of chips for early antes or needs a lot more mult for later antes, more than what this Joker gives.
  • 15 Minute City and Blast Off do not work well with Joker Stencil, as these decks both start with two Eternal Jokers, which means Joker Stencil gives less XMult than usual. Not only that, but Blast Off also reduces a Joker slot, which means Joker Stencil gives even less XMult than usual.
  • Typecast sets your Joker Slots to 0 after ante 4, which sets Joker Stencil to X0 Mult or less.

Weaker hands with low base Mult, like High Card, Pair, or Two Pair, have poor synergies with Joker Stencil, unless heavily leveled up using Planet Cards.

  • Abstract Joker requires filling up all Joker Slots to maximize its effect, and thus has anti-synergy with Joker Stencil.
  • Riff-Raff adds two jokers per blind selected, reducing empty slots for Joker Stencil to use.

Trivia

  • A "stencil" is a thin piece of material, usually paper, metal, or plastic, that has letters or patterns cut out of it. The stencil is then used to print a design or sentence on a surface by applying ink or paint through the cut-out holes. This is reflected in the Joker's design, as the card has a joker that's been cut out of the middle of it.
  • The center of the Joker Stencil texture is transparent, allowing you to see through it when moving this Joker around. However, when it is flipped face-down, it uses the same intact card back as the rest.
