Misprint is a Common Additive Mult Joker. It provides a random amount of Mult ranging from +0 to +23 Mult (inclusive) to all played hands, and the Mult is randomized for every hand. Misprint's description is constantly changing and glitching to represent this.

Synergies

  • Blue Deck: +1 hand per round means one more opportunity for Misprint to save the run with a high roll.
  • Black Deck: +1 Joker Slot allows the player to hold onto this Joker for longer.

This Joker provides unconditional +Mult, so it works for all played hands. Hands with low Mult at base and low Mult from levelling, such as High Card, Pair, and Two Pair, benefit from +Mult sources more than faster scaling hands such as Straight and Four of a Kind.

  • Multiple Misprints, or Misprint copied with Blueprint/ Brainstorm: The Mult given by these jokers will be generated independently, which reduces the randomness of the total Mult.[1]
  • Grabber and Nacho Tong each give +1 hand per round, which means one more opportunity for Misprint to save the run with a high roll. This is especially valuable earlier on.

Anti-Synergies

  • Painted Deck: This Deck should avoid Misprint outside of absolute emergencies; consistency is the key to making the most out of a Joker roster that is one slot short.
  • Golden Needle makes it very risky to use Misprint because this deck only has 1 hand, which mean scoring too little at any point will lead to game over.

Strategy

The average Mult added by Misprint is +11.5 Mult, which is statistically better on paper than other Common +Mult Jokers ( Joker, Jolly Joker, Mad Joker, and Droll Joker to name a few). This and the unconditionality of Misprint make it very suitable for the early stage of a run, when the player lacks powerful Jokers and specific gameplay style—for example, it is possible for Misprint to give +23 Mult, which is roughly equivalent to X6.75 Mult even for the high hands (Straight, Flush, or Full House), if the player does not have any other Mult Jokers or hand upgrades.

However, due to randomness of Misprint, it is hard to rely on it for scoring. In later stages of a run, Misprint is very replaceable in favor of Specialized Additive Mult Jokers, such as Fibonacci or Onyx Agate, or ones capable of very fast scaling, such as Red Card or Spare Trousers, based on the play style of this run.

Also, in a 'sink or swim' scenario where the player needs a consistent source of scoring, a Joker that provides less +Mult on average but has a lower capacity to low roll may be favorable.

Both low rolls and high rolls from Misprint can be harmful; a low roll can lead to you not scoring enough to beat a blind, and while a high roll may enable you to beat a blind with fewer hands, it can also hinder scaling hand-based Jokers like Green Joker and Square Joker as a result.

Trivia

  • This Joker is a reference to playing cards (or any other printed object) that have been printed incorrectly or misaligned during manufacture, resulting in the art being off-centered. The assorted blocks between the two Joker labels represent colored test bars used to perform calibration or quality assurance on printed media.
  • During early playtest versions of the game, Misprint could give negative mult down to -3 Mult, resulting in players directly losing score, which was later changed to give ≥ 0 Mult.
  • The glitchy description of Misprint consists of two parts: the first half contains random mult values (+0-23), independent of the Mult that Misprint will actually give, and the second half switches between the following:
    • The usual "Mult".
    • "rand()", the random function in C++. According to LocalThunk, this is an homage to his past game development in C++.[2]
    • A special text revealing the next card to be drawn: "#@[2-14][C/D/H/S]". The number corresponds to the rank of the card to be drawn (2-10 for numbered cards, 11 for Jack, 12 for Queen, 13 for King, and 14 for Ace), and the letter corresponds to the suit of the card (Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades). During a run, even if Misprint is not held, it can still be seen in the collection in the option panel, as long as Misprint has been discovered for the first time. However, when outside a run, in the collection of main menu, Misprint does not display cards drawn in a new or continued run, but rather always displays "#@11D" (Jack of Diamonds) as the default.
