Red Card is a Common scaling Additive Mult Joker that gains +3 Mult every time any Booster Pack is skipped by the player pressing the "Skip" button in the Booster Pack. It does not retroactively count the player's skipped Booster Packs before it was purchased and always begins at +0 Mult. Only Booster Packs purchased at the Shop or obtained through tags afterwards add to this multiplier. Mega Booster Packs are only able to trigger this Joker once per pack, allowing the player to pick up the first card and skip the second to trigger Red Card.

Strategy

When playing with Red Card, it's better not to skip Booster Packs specifically just to scale the Red Card. Opening a Booster Pack is more like rolling for a chance to get a good item — Booster Packs are not guaranteed to provide value, and the player would skip many Booster Packs anyway due to not getting a card that is sufficiently valuable. What Red Card does is that it provides +3 Mult in all of the cases where the player would have skipped anyway, so it is better to think of Red Card as an additional Booster Pack slot and to only skip if none of the options are better than +3 mult.

If the player opens a Mega Booster Pack, the player can still use the first card and then skip to scale up Red Card.

For instance, with 9 Planet Cards unlocked from the beginning and three in a regular Celestial Pack, assuming no Telescope, there is only a 1 in 3 chance for a Celestial Pack to contain the Planet Card that one actually wants. The other two-thirds of the time, the player would just skip or take a Planet Card of an irrelevant hand, gaining little to no value out of it. But with the Red Card, the player would get a minimum of +3 Mult — it might be more reasonable to think of it as a fourth Planet Card that gives +3 Mult for every hand (assuming no XMult triggered on played or held cards).

Synergies

  • Anaglyph Deck can build up many tags, then copy any tag that gives a Mega Booster Pack.
  • Green Deck encourages the player to spend money as they earn it, which works well with Red Card.
  • Red Card synergizes well with most economy Jokers that provide money, like Business Card or Rocket.
  • Astronomer can provide free celestial packs that can be used to scale.
  • Hallucination can allow you to still get tarot cards even while skipping.
  • Clearance Sale and Liquidation lower the price of booster packs, making it easier to purchase and skip more.
  • Hieroglyph and Petroglyph send the player back an Ante at the cost of -1 Hand and -1 Discard respectively, allowing them to open more booster packs to skip.

Skipping for these Tags works best when the player is on the Anaglyph Deck or has taken lots of Diet Colas.

  • Standard Tag, Charm Tag, Meteor Tag and Buffoon Tag all give access to Mega Booster Packs, which can be used by taking 1 card, then skipping to scale Red Card.
  • Ethereal Tag gives access to a Spectral Pack, which can optionally be skipped to scale Red Card.

Anti-Synergies

There are a lot of Jokers that, when combined with Red Card, leave the player in a dilemma between whether to scale Red Card or whether to scale the other joker. However, it is worth emphasizing again that skipping a Booster Pack specifically to scale up Red Card (instead of skipping a Booster Pack that already had very little value) might not be a good idea. Moreover, it is debatable whether these are true anti-synergies (rather than complements), since pairing the Red Card with any of these lessens the punishment of opening Booster Packs that don't have what you want:

  • Jokers that care about Tarot cards, such as Fortune Teller, Driver's License, and Vampire.
  • Jokers such as Steel Joker and Lucky Cat, which care about specific Tarot cards.
  • Jokers that care about Planet cards, such as Constellation and Satellite.
  • As for Standard Packs (and Spectral Packs in some cases), one would face a choice between scaling Hologram and Red Card — choose the one that increases the score more.

Other than dilemmas:

  • Jokers that care about the base Mult of a played hand, such as Bloodstone, will lose out on the scaling provided by planets.
  • Skipping blinds for Throwback means fewer packs to open. This is not as bad if the skip tag itself gives a Booster Pack.
  • The Telescope voucher can make skipping Celestial Packs undesirable.

Trivia

  • A red card in sports is usually used to signal a large penalty, often for some kind of rule infraction. In most forms of association football, for example, a red card signals that a player must leave the pitch after causing a foul or acting unsportsmanlike, causing their team to be one player short for the rest of the match.
    • A red card may also refer to a bright red plastic card used in blackjack, where the player inserts the card in the middle of the deck after the dealer shuffles it to mark where the deck should be cut.
