Delayed Gratification is a Common Economy Joker that provides $2 per discard if no discards are used during a round.

With the average deck giving 3 discards, Delayed Gratification will likely pay off $6 per blind early on. Blue Stake lowers this to 2 discards, making Delayed Gratification significantly worse for higher stakes.

• The Hook ( Boss The Hook.png)'s forced discards will not prevent Delayed Gratification from taking effect.

• Five-Card Draw ( ) and Golden Needle ( ) both start with 6 discards, which means Delayed Gratification can provide $12 if no discards are used. However, Golden Needle ( ) starts with only 1 hand, which can make it awkward to use Delayed Gratification.

This Joker disincentivizes discarding, so it is recommended to play more common Poker Hands like High Card, Pair, Two Pair, or Three of a Kind.

Without heavy deck modification, strong five-card hands like Flush, Straight, or Full House will be hard to assemble without using any discards.

• Starting with no discards, The Water ( Boss The Water.png) prevents Delayed Gratification from taking effect.

• On Blue Stake and higher, having one less discard means Delayed Gratification generates less money by default.

• The hourglass is an ancient method of measuring time, with sand falling from the top bulb to the bottom. An hourglass symbol was also used by many computer systems to tell the user the system is busy and that they should wait until it is finished.
• "Delayed gratification" is the act of resisting an immediate reward in favor of a longer-lasting, more substantial reward that will come later. This ties in with the ability of the Joker; the player is given extra money at the end of a blind by keeping all of their discards instead of immediately using them.
