Rough Gem is an Uncommon Diamonds-oriented Economy Joker which gives the player $1 for each  Diamond scored.

Unlike unlocking Arrowhead (Played cards with {{suit|Spade}} suit give {{Chips|+50}} when scored Have at least {{hl|orange|30}} cards with {{hl|orange|Spade}} suit in your deck Uncommon Chips On Scored Arrowhead.png) and Bloodstone ({{hl|green|1 in 2}} chance for played cards with {{suit|Heart}} suit to give {{xmult|1.5}} when scored Have at least {{hl|orange|30}} cards with {{hl|orange|Heart}} suit in your deck Uncommon Multiplicative Mult On Scored Bloodstone.png), fulfilling the condition of 30 Diamond cards in a Deck is trickier, as it doesn't allow for an easy strategy such as using the Checkered Deck ( Start run with {{hl|orange|26}} {{suit|Spades}} and {{hl|orange|26}} {{suit|Hearts}} in deck Win a run with the {{D|Black}} on any difficulty Checkered Deck.png) for the aforementioned Jokers.

• Magic Deck ( Start run with the {{V|Crystal Ball|class=hl-purple}} voucher and {{hl|orange|2}} copies of {{tarot|The Fool}} Win a run with the {{D|Red}} on [[Stakes|any difficulty]] Magic Deck.png) starts the player with two copies of The Fool (Creates the last [[Tarot Cards|{{hl|purple|Tarot}}]] or [[Planet Cards|{{hl|cyan|Planet}}]] card used during this run<br><small>{{hl|purple|The Fool}} excluded</small> Available from start. • Erratic Deck ( All [[Card Ranks|{{hl|orange|Ranks}}]] and [[Suits|{{hl|orange|Suits}}]] in deck are randomized Win a run with any [[Decks|deck]] on the {{Stake|Orange}} difficulty or harder Erratic Deck.png) may start the player with more Diamonds than usual, making the unlock condition slightly easier.
• Any Jokers that synergize with Flush builds are likely to be useful during the unlock attempt, such as Droll Joker ({{Mult|+10}} if played hand contains a {{ph|Flush}} Common Additive Mult Independent Droll Joker.png), Crafty Joker ({{Chips|+80}} if played hand contains a {{ph|Flush}} Common Chips Independent Crafty Joker.png), and The Tribe ({{xmult|2}} if played hand contains a {{ph|Flush}} Win a run without playing a {{ph|Flush}}. • Economy Jokers are likely to be beneficial to find more Tarots for Deck manipulation, such as Mail-In Rebate (Earn {{Money|5}} for each discarded [[Card Ranks|{{hl|orange|[rank]}}]], rank changes every round Common Economy On Discard Mail-In Rebate.png) and Golden Joker (Earn {{Money|4}} at end of round Common Economy N/A (Passive) Golden_Joker.png).
• While Smeared Joker ({{suit|Hearts}} and {{suit|Diamonds}} count as the same suit, {{suit|Spades}} and {{suit|Clubs}} count as the same suit Have at least {{hl|orange|3}} [[Wild Cards|{{hl|orange|Wild Card}}]] in your deck Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Smeared Joker.png) allows Heart cards to count as Diamonds for the purpose of scoring, those cards do not count as Diamonds for the purpose of unlocking the joker.

• Erratic Deck ( All [[Card Ranks|{{hl|orange|Ranks}}]] and [[Suits|{{hl|orange|Suits}}]] in deck are randomized Win a run with any [[Decks|deck]] on the {{Stake|Orange}} difficulty or harder Erratic Deck.png) can benefit from Rough Gem if the deck is randomized to have more Diamonds than other suits.

Any Flush-type hand with Diamonds benefits from Rough Gem, those being:

• Flush
• Straight Flush
• Flush House
• Flush Five

• Greedy Joker (Played cards with {{Suit|Diamond}} suit give {{Mult|+3}} when scored Common Additive Mult On Scored Greedy Joker.png) provides a small boost in Mult for scoring Diamond cards, which may be useful as Rough Gem does not directly increase scoring power.
• Bull ({{Chips|+2}} for each {{$|1}} you have <br> {{currently|{{chips|+0}}}} Uncommon Chips Independent Bull.png) and Bootstraps ({{Mult|+2}} for every {{Money|5}} you have <br> {{Currently|{{Mult|+0}}}} Have at least {{hl|orange|2}} {{hl|edition|Polychrome}} Jokers at the same time. Uncommon Additive Mult Independent Bootstraps.png) directly benefit as they gain scoring power based on the player's current Money.
• Jokers that require a steady Economy to scale efficiently such as Flash Card (This Joker gains {{Mult|+2}} per {{hl|orange|reroll}} in [[The Shop|the shop]] <br> {{Currently|{{mult|+0}}}} Uncommon Additive Mult Independent Flash Card.png) and Red Card (This Joker gains {{Mult|+3}} when any [[Booster Packs|{{hl|orange|Booster Pack}}]] is skipped <br> {{Currently|{{mult|+0}}}} Common Additive Mult Independent Red_Card.png) also benefit substantially.
• As Rough Gem produces money mid-round, it works very well with To the Moon (Earn an extra {{Money|1}} of {{hl|orange|interest}} for every {{Money|5}} you have at end of round Uncommon Economy N/A (Passive) To the Moon.png), as the money produced counts towards interest earned at the end of the round.
• Any Retrigger Joker will synergize with Rough Gem as it allows the player to earn more Money.

• Splash (Every {{hl|orange|played card}} counts in scoring Common Effect N/A (Passive) Splash.png) can occasionally be useful, as the scoring of an additional Diamond that wouldn't otherwise score is extra Money.
  • However, the player ideally would be playing Flushes, which Splash is useless for.

• The Star (Converts up to {{hl|orange|3}} selected cards to {{Suit|Diamonds}} Available from start. Tarot The Star.png) can turn some non-Diamond cards into Diamond cards allowing the player to see Diamond cards easier and generate more money.
• The Lovers (Enhances {{hl|orange|1}} selected card into a [[Card Modifiers|{{hl|orange|Wild Card}}]] Available from start. Tarot The Lovers.png) can turn some non-Diamond cards into Wild Cards which trigger Rough Gem.
• Death (Select {{hl|orange|2}} cards, convert the {{hl|orange|left}} card into the {{hl|orange|right}} card<br>{{hl|gray|(Drag to rearrange)}} Available from start. Tarot Death.png) can turn some non-Diamond cards into Diamond cards
• The Hanged Man (Destroys up to {{hl|orange|2}} selected cards Available from start. Tarot The Hanged Man.png) can remove some non-Diamond cards.
• Deja Vu (Add a [[Red Seal|{{hl|red|Red Seal}}]] to {{hl|orange|1}} selected card in your hand Available from start. Spectral Deja Vu.png) can apply Red Seals onto Diamond cards allowing Rough Gem to generate more money.

• Checkered Deck ( Start run with {{hl|orange|26}} {{suit|Spades}} and {{hl|orange|26}} {{suit|Hearts}} in deck Win a run with the {{D|Black}} on any difficulty Checkered Deck.png) cannot benefit from Rough Gem without adding Diamonds to the deck.

• While Four Fingers (All {{ph|Flushes}} and {{ph|Straights}} can be made with 4 cards Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Four Fingers.png) can make Flushes easier to play, it enables the player to do so with less overall cards, therefore Rough Gem will generate less money if the player opts for a 4-card Diamond Flush.
  • It may be suitable to hunt for Planet cards and/or scaling Mult Jokers if Four Fingers must remain in conjunction with Rough Gem.

• The Window ( Boss The Window.png) will debuff all Diamond cards, meaning Rough Gem cannot give any Money.
• The Pillar ( Boss The Pillar.png) can be detrimental as previously played Diamond cards will not be able to score, earning no Money.

• Rough Gem is one of four stone/mineral themed Jokers unlocked by having 30 cards of that suit in your deck. The others are Arrowhead (Played cards with {{suit|Spade}} suit give {{Chips|+50}} when scored Have at least {{hl|orange|30}} cards with {{hl|orange|Spade}} suit in your deck Uncommon Chips On Scored Arrowhead.png) (Spades), Bloodstone ({{hl|green|1 in 2}} chance for played cards with {{suit|Heart}} suit to give {{xmult|1.5}} when scored Have at least {{hl|orange|30}} cards with {{hl|orange|Heart}} suit in your deck Uncommon Multiplicative Mult On Scored Bloodstone.png) (Hearts), and Onyx Agate (Played cards with {{Suit|Club}} suit give {{mult|+7}} when scored Have at least {{hl|orange|30}} cards with {{hl|orange|Club}} suit in your deck Uncommon Additive Mult On Scored Onyx Agate.png) (Clubs).
• The effect of the Joker giving money could connect it to Greedy Joker, the other Joker pertaining only to Diamonds.
