Blast Off is a Challenge Deck. The Eternal Constellation and Eternal Rocket take up two of the four Joker slots available, and the Rocket can supplement the reduced money from having only two hands per round. The initial vouchers incentivize purchasing Planet cards to build Constellation. The player is unable to gain more hands per round using other means.

Starting Contents

The starting deck contains the standard 52 cards.

Synergies

Due to the low amount of hands and starting Discards, players will have to rely on strong + Mult Jokers in the early game and pivot later if they find a good scaling + Mult Joker to go with Constellation:

  • Gros Michel and Mystic Summit are powerful in early Antes, allowing weaker hands to still win in 2 hands at best.
  • Flash Card and Bootstraps are good scaling + Mult Jokers thanks to the increased income from Rocket.
  • Astronomer can help proc the given Constellation, and is doubly helpful with the provided Planet Merchant and Planet Tycoon vouchers.
  • Chaos the Clown can help with finding additional Planet Cards in the shop, or with finding non-planet cards, though it may need to be replaced for scoring jokers in later antes due to the limited amount of slots.
  • Drunkard and Merry Andy provide extra discards.
  • Dusk and Acrobat can become active very early due to only having 2 hands to play with.
  • Baseball Card can go either way, because althought you start with one fewer Joker slot than usual, you also start with 2 Uncommon Jokers.
  • Clearance Sale and Liquidation can help with purchasing more planet cards and Celestial packs to scale Constellation.
  • Overstock, Overstock Plus, Reroll Surplus, and Reroll Glut all allow the player to see more Planet Cards in the shop to scale Constellation.
  • Wasteful and Recyclomancy provide extra discards.
  • Antimatter can offset the -1 Joker slot.

Anti-Synergies

  • Abstract Joker, Swashbuckler, and Joker Stencil are weaker in this challenge due to the -1 Joker Slot.
  • Scaling Jokers that require playing lots of hands, like Green Joker, Spare Trousers, or Ride the Bus, are less effective due to the reduced number of hands.
  • Jokers that encourage the player to not discard such as Delayed Gratification, Banner, and Ramen are much more difficult to use, as they suffer from the -2 hands penalty, which forces much more dependency on discards while disallowing liberal use of 'throwaway' hands. Not only that, but this deck also removes a discard, which makes the former two even worse to use.
  • Vagabond and Reserved Parking suffer from the -2 hands penalty, as Jokers that generate a resource when a hand is played have even fewer opportunities to trigger.
  • Jokers that rely on discarding, such as Castle, Hit the Road, and Mail-In Rebate, are weaker than usual due to the -1 discard.
  • Card Sharp may only be able to activate once per blind, making it a worse Acrobat.
  • Loyalty Card becomes much harder to activate.
  • Troubadour and Hieroglyph are very risky to use, as their -1 hand penalty means the player will only have one hand to beat each blind.
  • Petroglyph leaves the player with only one discard. Althought cards that give discards are not banned, unlike cards that give hands, it's still not recommended since you have to buy Hieroglyph first, meaning only one hand per blind.
  • Fortune Teller is weaker due to the starting Planet Merchant and Planet Tycoon vouchers, which reduce the probability of Tarot Cards appearing.
  • Effect Jokers that provide no direct scoring, such as Splash, Shortcut or Luchador, become harder to keep due to the missing Joker Slot.
  • Temperance will give less money due to the player only having 4 Jokers slots.

Trivia

  • The term "blast off" means a rocket or another type of spacecraft launching from its base site and into outer space, which references the Rocket being one of the jokers you start with.
