Luxury Tax
Hold
-1 cards in hand for every
$5 you have
10 hand size
Luxury Tax is a Challenge Deck. It penalizes owning too much money via reducing the player's hand size.
Starting Contents
The starting deck contains the standard 52 cards.
Synergies
Credit Card (Go up to red in debt Common Economy N/A (Passive) Credit Card.png) can provide up to +4 hand size if players stay $-20 in debt.
The Tooth ( Boss The Tooth.png) can also make you go into debt.
Vagabond (Create a purple card if hand is played with 4 or less Rare Effect Independent Vagabond.png) will provide a steady supply of Tarot cards for deck enhancing should players opt to stay below $5.
Juggler (orange hand size Common Effect N/A (Passive) Juggler.png) and
Troubadour (orange hand size, <br> blue hand each round Win orange consecutive rounds by <abbr title="Discards are OK to use.">playing only 1 hand</abbr> Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Troubadour.png) can help offset the hand size penalty given by Luxury Tax.
- This also applies to
Paint Brush (orange hand size Base Paint Brush.png) and
Palette (orange hand size Reduce your hand size down to five cards. Upgraded Palette.png).
Merry Andy (red discards each round, <br>red hand size Win a run in orange or fewer rounds Uncommon Effect N/A (Passive) Merry_Andy.png) and
Stuntman (+250,<br>orange hand size Earn at least 100 million (100,000,000) Chips in a single hand. Rare Chips Independent Stuntman.png) can go either way, since even though their hand size penalties get offset by the extra hand size given, they limit the player to even less money.
- Jokers that benefit from having a small hand size (such as
Blue Joker (+2 for each remaining card in orange <br> Common Chips Independent Blue Joker.png)), and Jokers that benefit from having a big hand size (such as
Baron (Each orange held in hand gives 1.5 Rare Multiplicative Mult On Held Baron.png)) can also go either way.
Golden Joker (Earn 4 at end of round Common Economy N/A (Passive) Golden_Joker.png),
Egg (Gains 3 of orange at end of round Common Economy N/A (Passive) Egg.png),
Satellite (Earn 1 at end of round per unique cyan card used this run Have at least 400. Uncommon Economy N/A (Passive) Satellite.png) and
Cloud 9 (Earn 1 for each orange in your orange at end of round <br> Uncommon Economy N/A (Passive) Cloud 9.png) can help as econ Jokers, as they activate after a blind, meaning that the money accumulated by them can be spent in the next shop, with no downside to your hand size.
The Devil (Enhances orange selected card into a orange Available from start. Tarot The Devil.png) and
Midas Mask (All played orange cards become orange cards when scored Uncommon Effect On Played Midas_Mask.png) can create
Gold Cards (3 if this card is held in hand at end of round Gold Card.png) as well, which gives $3 after the round is completed. Having a larger hand size also means you can hold onto more
Gold Cards (3 if this card is held in hand at end of round Gold Card.png).
Coupon Tag ( Coupon tag.png) can be worth the skip, since the next shop will be free.
Anti-Synergies
- Be careful when using
Lucky Cards (green chance for +20<br>green chance to win 20 Lucky Card.png), as a single $20 produce will reduce hand size by 4, which makes future hands harder to assemble.
Bootstraps (+2 for every 5 you have <br> Have at least orange edition Jokers at the same time. Uncommon Additive Mult Independent Bootstraps.png) and
Bull (+2 for each you have <br> Uncommon Chips Independent Bull.png) are practically useless, since you're going to want to hold on to very little money.
- Similarly,
To the Moon (Earn an extra 1 of orange for every 5 you have at end of round Uncommon Economy N/A (Passive) To the Moon.png) provides little benefit, as in order to take advantage of its high interest, you'd want high starting money, which this deck punishes.
- This also includes
Seed Money (Raise the cap on interest earned in each round to 10 Base Seed Money.png) and
Money Tree (Raise the cap on interest earned in each round to 20 Max out the interest per round earnings for ten consecutive rounds Upgraded Money Tree.png).
- Be wary when using econ jokers that provide money in the middle of a blind such as
Golden Ticket (Played orange cards earn 4 when scored Play a 5 card hand that contains only orange cards Common Economy On Scored Golden Ticket.png),
Rough Gem (Played cards with Diamond suit earn 1 when scored Have at least orange cards with orange suit in your deck Uncommon Economy On Scored Rough Gem.png),
Business Card (Played orange cards have a green chance to give 2 when scored Common Economy On Scored Business_Card.png), etc. as they can reduce your hand size in the middle of said blind.
- Although not impossible, it is considerably harder to make Jokers that require high monetary cost (such as
Flash Card (This Joker gains +2 per orange in the shop <br> Uncommon Additive Mult Independent Flash Card.png),
Constellation (This Joker gains 0.1 every time a cyan card is used <br> Uncommon Multiplicative Mult Independent Constellation.png) and
Campfire (This Joker gains 0.25 for each card orange, resets when orange is defeated <br> Rare Multiplicative Mult Independent Campfire.png)) function in this challenge.
- Skipping for Tags that give money can be dangerous. If you have enough money to set your hand size to less than 1 after skipping, upon selecting blind you will be met with the game over screen.
