Wraith is a Spectral card that spawns a Rare Joker if there is room, but also sets money to $0.

Usage notes

  • Wraith will always set money to $0 even when in the negatives, removing any debt completely.
  • If the player is already holding all Rare Jokers and not holding Showman, the fallback Joker is Joker.
  • Similar to other consumables that generate Jokers, such as Judgement or The Soul, the Joker created by Wraith cannot be Perishable, Eternal, or Rental.
  • You cannot use Wraith if you have no empty Joker slots remaining (the Use button will be greyed out).
  • The Non-Perishable challenge has Wraith create an Eternal Joker.
  • The Jokerless challenge bans Wraith.

Synergies

  • If the player has Credit Card and goes up to $-20 in debt, the player can gain up to $20 after using Wraith.

Anti-Synergies

  • Rich get Richer is not recommended to use Wraith on, as setting money to $0 in this deck means the player can't score at all.
  • Non-Perishable makes it very risky to use Wraith, as it spawns an Eternal Rare Joker on this deck.
  • It is not recommended to use Wraith if the player has Bull and/or Bootstraps, as setting money to $0 makes them lose their effect on score.

Strategy

  • Wraith creates a random Rare Joker if there is room and sets money to $0. This effect can potentially be life-saving due to how strong Rare Jokers can be, but may give little benefits if the Joker it generates doesn't fit into the run.
  • Wraith can be used to remove debt completely, which can work surprisingly well to remove the downsides of using Credit Card or The Tooth boss blind.
  • If the build is already good enough on its own, it may not be wise to give up a Joker and use Wraith, because the Joker it generates may not be beneficial to the run and in turn can be run-killing.
  • It is a good idea to spend down before using Wraith, which will help minimize its downside and allow you to see more shop items.
  • Being a Joker-generating card, Wraith can't generate Eternal Jokers, which might hinder its usage with Madness, Ankh, or Hex.
  • Do note that using Wraith will not always be beneficial, and will leave a dent in the economy if there aren't backups like The Hermit or Temperance, in which case the best move is to skip it or sell it.

Trivia

  • Wraith is defined as an apparition, or ghostly appearance of someone, usually showing up shortly before or after their death.
  • Wraith appears on a product made in partnership with Fangamer called the Clairvoyance Play Mat.[1] The cards levitating around the apparition appear to reference the art of the Incantation spectral card.
