Tarot Cards

Tarot Cards are a form of consumable you can obtain during a run. They can be acquired via Arcana Packs, Purple Seal (Creates a {{Tarot|}} card when {{hl|orange|discarded}}<br>{{room}} Purple Seal.png), the Shop or jokers like Cartomancer (Create a [[Tarot Cards|{{hl|purple|Tarot}}]] card when [[Blinds|{{hl|orange|Blind}}]] is selected <br> {{room}} Discover every Tarot Card. Tarot Cards are used to modify the cards in in your deck, such as changing their suit or rank. They are also capable of giving cards Enhancements, or additional effects, like giving extra chips or multiplier when scored. Some give cash, generate new jokers, or even create more consumables. There are 22 different Tarot Cards available, and they unlock when purchased or used in an unseeded run.

• The Tarot Merchant ({{Tarot|}} cards appear {{hl|orange|2X}} more frequently in the shop Base Tarot Merchant.png) and Tarot Tycoon ({{Tarot|}} cards appear {{hl|orange|4X}} more frequently in the shop Buy a total of 50 Tarot cards from the shop Upgraded Tarot Tycoon.png) Vouchers can help you gain more Tarot Cards by making them more likely to appear in the Shop.

• The tarot cards are based on the Major Arcana, which are the trump cards from a standard 78-card pack of cards. They are also often used in tarot reading, a form of cartomancy. Some of the Tarot effects have a loose relation to their meanings in divination, although most are not.
• The artworks are based on the Rider–Waite-Smith tarot deck.
  • However, it seems to omit and change small elements such as removing the angel in The Lovers (Enhances {{hl|orange|1}} selected card into a [[Card Modifiers|{{hl|orange|Wild Card}}]] Available from start. Tarot The Lovers.png) and making The Empress (Enhances {{hl|orange|2}} selected cards to [[Card Modifiers|{{hl|orange|Mult Cards}}]] Available from start. Tarot The Empress.png)' scepter into a staff.
  • The cards Justice (Enhances {{hl|orange|1}} selected card into a [[Card Modifiers|{{hl|orange|Glass Card}}]] Available from start. Tarot Justice.png) (VIII) and Strength (Increases rank of up to {{hl|orange|2}} selected cards by {{hl|orange|1}} Available from start. Tarot Strength.png) (XI) are swapped, as this ordering is more standard for other tarot decks.
• Even though The Soul (Creates a [[Legendary Jokers|{{hl|purple|Legendary}}]] Joker <br> {{room}} Available from start. Spectral The Soul.png) is not considered a tarot card by the game, it is styled like a traditional tarot card.
• Standard tarot cards are involved in the usage of 3 card readings or 5 card readings, which ties into the number of tarot cards you can select from booster packs depending on their size (3 in regular packs and 5 in Jumbo and Mega packs).
  • In the demo of Balatro, before Booster Packs were added, tarot cards were acquired during a skip event called Tarot Reading, where you can choose 1 of up to either 3 or 5 random tarot cards.
