The main menu is one of the many menus of Balatro. When the player opens the game, the main menu will show up either when they click/press the screen after Jimbo shows up or when the pre-main menu animation is done playing.

The logo of the game is featured on the upper part of the game's main menu. The "A" in the middle of the word is replaced with an Ace of Spades that the player can interact with. This Ace of Spades may be replaced with a random locked Joker or Voucher a few seconds after the main menu is opened for a profile that does not have everything unlocked yet.

Buttons

The lower part of the main menu features multiple buttons. The following table lists all of the buttons in the main menu from left to right:

Name Description
Profile Leads the player to the profile menu, where they can select, create, or delete a save file. Includes the name of the profile.
Play Leads the player to the Deck selection menu.
Options Leads the player to the options menu, which allows them to change the game's settings, check their stats, customize their deck, or check the game's credits.
Quit Exits the game. This button is only present on desktop versions, and not on mobile/console versions.
Collection Leads the player to the Collection menu, which lists all of the items they have discovered or unlocked, including Jokers, Consumables, Tags, Blinds, and more.
Languages[1] Leads the player to the language selection menu.
Showcases a small menu listing a few official links, including the FAQ, a tutorial on how to play the game, a link to the Discord server, and a link to LocalThunk's X account. On desktop, this is split into 2 buttons, the Discord server and LocalThunk's X account.

Notes

  • When returning to a currently active game from the main menu's "Play" button, some actions taken by the player are saved and some are not.
    • The following will not be saved:
      • Consumables used, whether from the consumable slots or a Booster Pack
      • Hands that have not finished scoring
      • Other unfinished animations
    • The following will act as "save points" (every action taken up to this will be saved):
      • Played hands
      • Discards
      • Shop refreshes
      • Opening a Booster Pack
      • Concluding use of a Booster Pack (skipping or finishing the animation for the last card)
      • Leaving the shop
    • Additionally, sometimes returning to a game from the main menu during a blind will cause a bug where the required score no longer shows.
  • There exists a bug that can cause the game to be softlocked. It occurs when opening a Booster Pack obtained from a Double Tag, then exiting to the main menu and reloading the run.
