Discoverability

Discoverability is a status that is available for almost every item in Balatro. It determines whether an item is fully displayed in the Collection menu or not. If the player did not discover a specific item yet, it will be marked as Not Discovered, which means an item has not been purchased, used, or encountered by a player in a particular profile yet. An item must be first unlocked before making it discoverable, though most of the items in Balatro are already unlocked at the start of the game.

During a run, the names of undiscovered Jokers, Vouchers, Consumables, and Booster Packs will remain anonymized until they're discovered, though their listed effect will remain visible regardless of discovery status. The names of Tags and Blinds will show up regardless of whether they're discovered or not.

In the Collection, items that are not discovered in a profile yet will be marked with a placeholder item with a question mark in the middle. Hovering or tapping on each category of undiscovered items in the Collection will yield a small tooltip labeling an item as "Not Discovered" and showcase an instruction on how to discover the item.

• To discover a specific Joker, Voucher, or Consumable, the player must purchase, obtain, or use it in an unseeded run.
• To discover a specific Edition, the player must find this edition in an unseeded run.
• To discover a specific Booster Pack, the player must open it in an unseeded run. They can do so by skipping Blinds or purchasing them from the Shop.
• To discover a specific Tag, the player must use it in an unseeded run, particularly by skipping Blinds.
• To discover a specific Blind, the player must defeat it by meeting the Blind's score requirement.

Once an item is discovered, the game will show an exclamation mark through the Collection button, then through the specific categories of newly discovered items, then through the specific items. Hovering or tapping through a newly discovered item will remove that exclamation mark.

It should be noted that in a new profile, the following items are automatically discovered:

• Joker ({{Mult|+4}} Common Additive Mult Independent Joker.png);
• Red Deck ( {{hl|red|+1}} discard every round Unlocked from start Red Deck.png);
• All enhanced cards;
• All seals.

Excluding automatically discovered items, it should also be noted that Decks do not have a discoverable status, as the player can simply meet the unlock condition of a Deck to be able to access it. Furthermore, Legendary Jokers can be considered as not having a discoverable status either, as their unlock condition requires obtaining them from The Soul (Creates a [[Legendary Jokers|{{hl|purple|Legendary}}]] Joker <br> {{room}} Available from start. Spectral The Soul.png), which will make the player have to use them in a run, thus making them visible in the Collection.

• In the Editions section of the Collection, the editions are used specifically on the Joker ({{Mult|+4}} Common Additive Mult Independent Joker.png). The placeholder/not discovered card sprite is the same as the one that is used for undiscovered jokers in the Jokers section of the Collection.
