Die Boundary Commission for England schuf den Wahlkreis im Hinblick auf die Unterhauswahl 1950. Er entstand aus Teilen der weiterhin bestehenden Wahlkreise Watford und Hemel Hampstead. 1974, 1983, 1997, 2010 und 2024 kam es im Rahmen periodischer Überprüfungen zu verschiedenen Grenzverschiebungen.
1974–1983: die Urban District Bushey, Chorleywood und Rickmansworth sowie im Rural District of Watford die Parishes Abbots Langley, Sarratt und Watford Rural[3]
1983–1997: im District of Three Rivers die Wards Ashridge, Bedmond, Carpenders Park, Chorleywood, Chorleywood West, Croxley Green, Croxley Green North, Croxley Green South, Hayling, Langleybury, Maple Cross & West Hyde, Mill End, Money Hill, Moor Park, Northwood, Oxhey Hall, Rickmansworth und Sarratt sowie im District of Dacorum die Wards Berkhamsted Central, Berkhamsted East, Berkhamsted West, Bovingdon & Flaunden, Chipperfield, Kings Langley und Northchurch[4]
1997–2010: im District of Three Rivers die Wards Ashridge, Chorleywood, Chorleywood West, Croxley Green, Croxley Green North, Croxley Green South, Hayling, Maple Cross & West Hyde, Mill End, Money Hill, Moor Park, Northwood, Rickmansworth und Sarratt sowie im District of Dacorum die Wards Aldbury & Wigginton, Berkhamsted Central, Berkhamsted East, Berkhamsted West, Bovingdon & Flaunden, Chipperfield, Northchurch, Tring Central, Tring East und Tring West[5]
2010–2024: im District of Three Rivers die Wards Chorleywood East, Chorleywood West, Croxley Green, Croxley Green North, Croxley Green South, Hayling, Maple Cross & Mill End, Moor Park & Eastbury, Northwood, Penn, Rickmansworth, Rickmansworth West und Sarratt sowie im District of Dacorum die Wards Aldbury & Wigginton, Berkhamsted Castle, Berkhamsted East, Berkhamsted West, Bovingdon, Flaunden and Chipperfield, Northchurch, Tring Central, Tring East und Tring West[6]
seit 2024: der gesamte District of Three Rivers sowie im Borough of Dacorum der Ward Kings Langley[7]
Seit seiner Erschaffung wird der Wahlkreis durchgehend von Mitgliedern der Conservative Party vertreten. Gilbert Longden amtierte von 1950 bis 1974. Auf ihn folgte Geoffrey Dodsworth, der Ende 1979 zurücktrat. Die notwendig gewordene Nachwahl entschied Richard Page für sich, der bis 2005 im Amt blieb. Richard Gauke vertrat den Wahlkreis ab 2005. Ab September 2019 saß Gauke als Unabhängiger im Parlament und stellte sich auch der Unterhauswahl 2019[8], verlor sein Mandat jedoch an Gagan Mohindra.
