Teardown

Einleitung

I noticed some of the keyboard switches kept sticking and had lost their 'clicky' sound. After inspecting the keyboard switches, I found this was due to debris and grease accumulation over time.

This teardown tutorial is my attempt to clean up the switches thereby resolving the sticky switches issue.

    • Top view of the keyboard.

    • Remove all key caps.

    • There are screws in-between key switches. Remove all screws (see red circles).

    • Under the 6 rubber grommets are 8 screws that need to be removed.

    You will have to pry off the bottom panel after that

    • Nine screws secure the back LED logic board. Remove all of them.

    • The back LED logic board is connected to the main PCB by a cable. Carefully disconnect the cable.

    • The transparent plastic gasket is tightly locked to the main frame. Use the jimmy tool to carefully remove the panel.

    • There are 3 tiny screws that keep the main frame and the printed circuit board together. Remove the red circled screws before you separate them.

    • There are two cables connected to the PCB. Carefully separate the main frame and the PCB, then disconnect the lower cable first.

    • With the lower cable disconnected, the PCB can be flipped upright so as to easily remove the upper cable.

    • Now the logic board is revealed and can be cleaned up.

are the actual keys soldiered to the board or they are hot replaceable?

Does anyone know what kind of LED's are being used on this keyboard? The green on one of the LED's has burned out and I would like to replace it.

Anyone know if the rotary dial can be replaced? Mine does not act properly and turning it in one direction causes changes in value that are both inconsistent in value and direction. Very weird.
